Welcome

Though most of this blog contains pictures, it's also a detailed account of my life living with three boys. And yes, they are all boys. Hope you enjoy... they're pretty cute (but often smell).

Brit's Things of the Moment

Book(s): The Hunger Games trilogy
Yes; I’m somehow reading another young adult book. This one happened by accident. I didn’t even know it was YA until I got an email of “books you might like” from Amazon. The content is so far from what I assume YA would be… here’s the synopsis:
In a not-too-distant future, North America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war, to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year, two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcasted throughout Panem as the 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss' young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining district's female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart, Peeta, the son of the town baker who seems to have all the fighting skills of a lump of bread dough, will be pitted against bigger, stronger representatives who have trained for this their whole lives.
It’s very good – I urge you all to read it.

Shows: Fringe and Bob’s Burgers
Fringe is back!!! J and I have been loyal viewers of Fringe from the get-go and it’s just been renewed for a 4th season. If you’ve never watched the show I urge you to rent the first seasons… I promise you will love it!
Bob’s Burgers is picking up stride. It’s more in the Family Guy genre but with some really witty characters. Try it on and see if it fits.

Movies: ----
I haven’t seen one that I can even somewhat talk about… Nicole (Decker/Johnson) and I have a monthly movie date and our last two (I Am Number 4 and Red Riding Hood) have both sucked. We’re going to see Water for Elephants later in April and I hope that it’s better than the previous two…

Candy of the Moment: Junior Mints
Not much to say except “YUM”

Something to Make You Laugh

Three Months

I can't believe it's been three months. Seriously, how did three months already come and go?

Photobucket

Cole is:
  • Looking different every week - getting taller, heavier, more hair....
  • Holding onto rattles, shaking them around, and then flinging them across the room
  • More and more aware of his surroundings... he's very intense when looking at things... really taking it all in
  • "Is going to be a mover" according to his daycare
  • An inch worm when put on his stomach... he hasn't quite figured out the arm part but his legs know what to do
  • Sleeping from 10pm-6:30am... when swaddled
  • Loving daycare - he flirts with all the ladies that work there and I think a few of the little girls already have crushes on him!
  • Making new sounds. He still has his late-night fuss cry but now there's the morning whine/chit-chat, the giggle, the squeal when he gets excited, this high pitch squeal when he's REALLY excited and wants you to know it, the oh-so sad cry that now accompanies the lip pout, and the raspy laugh (which is VERY new and only heard on rare occasions)

Would it be weird...

Would it be weird if I brought Cole to the nail salon... to get his nails done? Not polished or anything like that (I'm not trying to make him Emo) but to get them trimmed down. Every time I do it I seem to miss an edge and this is what happens:

Mom of the year award!

Jason Update: I wish I could tell you all about his ski trip, or have him write about it, but he's currently sitting at a truck stop in Dickinson, ND. Highway 94 has been closed since last night! Even if he were to get back on the road now, and have perfect driving conditions, he still wouldn't be home until 11:00pm.

Where's my wine?

Lent and Other Stuff

I'm not a church-goer. I have no problem with church, I just haven't been in a while. So when I was asked at work what I was giving up for lent I didn't really have an answer. I don't think I've participated before.

Now before you start judging the rest of this post for one reason or another, take a step back, inhale - exhale, and just go with it.

So this year I decided that I would give something up. The problem is there isn't too much I WANTED to give (yes, I realize that's not really the point of lent... stop judging) - after being pregnant I wasn't going to give up alcohol... or coffee... already did that for nine months! I don't really eat sweets or drink pop... and I'm not a big snack person. So what does that leave?

For lent I'm giving up excuses.

I will no longer use the "I just had a baby" or the "it's just not the right time" excuses for the next forty days (I'll even observe these on Sundays, even though they are off-days).

So starting last night I did some crunches. Tonight I will spend some time on the treadmill. Tomorrow, since I don't have to work, I will do my Tracy Anderson video and work on my business plan.

Other stuff:

  • Jason comes home in two days!!!!
  • I started swaddling Cole again... he wasn't sleeping through the night... since returning to that magical piece of fabric he is going down at 10pm and sleeping until 6:30am!
  • I'll be back to teaching yoga on Sunday mornings April 10th
  • Cole is holding onto rattles - not for a super long time but it's still a great development
  • We have another friend who is prego - that makes 6 now - babies everywhere this fall

Life Project

Our wedding photographer, the amazing Jacquelyn Senske, posted a blog about Life Project. What is it? It's a organizers photo-album dream. It's meant to do as a daily journal/photo essay but you can make it into anything you want it to be.

Here's an example stolen from Jacquelyn's blog (sorry lady) so you can see:

I'm really considering doing this even though it would be pretty time consuming. I just love the idea of being able to look back at all the little stuff... like this week at home with Cole... and my annoying cold... and the dinner with Decker last night...
Thoughts?

Reliving Memories

I've gotten some emails about our wedding dance video recently so I thought I would post it quick... I hadn't watched it in a very long time and I have to say 1) how did we EVER pull that off?  2)It's a lot longer then I thought  3) I looked good... I want those arms and that flat stomach back!

Hope this gives you a laugh!

Rollie Pollie

Cole rolled over for the first time last night! Well he would have gotten all the way on his stomach but his arm got caught under him so it was more like 3/4th of a roll. But still!

Jason is very bummed to have missed it but I'm sure he didn't miss what came next...

We've been talking about not swaddling Cole at night... he's been shifting around so much we were nervous he would flip and not be able to flip back since his arms are in a straight jacket. Now that he's rolling I decided I had to unswaddle him. Now I know why those swaddles are so necessary... Cole had his first 3am wake-up in two weeks... I tried to just rock him but he was NOT having it. So I mixed a bottle, fed him, changed him, and put him back down. Again, not having it. It was a battle of nerves for the next hour and a half. I want the swaddle back.

On another note - I'm very excited for all the upcoming babies! We now have a total of five friends who are all with child (hehe) - looks like it will be a summer/fall of new babies!

Congrats to all the pregos out there! Looks like my prenatal training might be put to some use!

Now off to shovel the driveway... again, something Jason is surely missing... I have a feeling my physical therapist is going to yell at me...

Wish Me Luck

Tonight Jason leaves for Flatlander... his annual ski trip to Montana. He'll be gone until next Saturday... that's right... just me and Papoose for a eight days! Think happy, non-crying, all night sleeping, not-getting-sick thoughts for me!

So... How Did It Go?

Yesterday was my first day back at work and Cole's first day at daycare. How did it go?

7:30     Drop Off with Jason. Tears rolling down the face from the time we walked in and most of the drive to work (yes, me, not Cole)

9:00     Bagels and Coffee to start the day (thank you Patty) and then getting caught-up on office gossip... and client status

11:00     Call daycare - Cole is doing great though I feel like they are holding something back. Ok, paranoia. I guess what I secretly wanted to hear was "Cole won't stop crying. He misses you so much. Guess you'll just have to come get him now".

12:30     Grabbed lunch with Becky. Have realization that it feels like I was never gone. I really didn't think it would be so easy to get right back into the swing of things.

2:00     Make Jason call and check on Cole while in meetings. Have a hard time reading presentation because I'm humming The Itsy Bitsy Spider in my head... missing Cole SO much.

4:00     Meetings are done and I'm sprinting to the door. Can't WAIT to grab my lil' man.

4:15     Hopes and dreams of getting Cole early are shattered due to accident on 94. Proceed to sit in traffic, swearing, for 50 minutes.

5:30     FINALLY get to grab Cole! He's had a great day with lots of small little catnaps. He's eaten like a champ and was talking to Merita (daycare lady). I'm so excited I could cry... Proceed to cry the entire drive to pick Jason up from the bus. This is a cry out of happiness and sadness. This is my life now.
